Our 10m long lead is designed with durability in mind and weighs approximately 650g. Because of this, it may feel too heavy for smaller dogs. We generally recommend it for dogs around 20-25kg and above, where the weight is better matched to their size and strength.

What is a long dog lead used for? +

A long dog lead is ideal for recall training, decompression walks, or letting your dog explore safely. Mighty Tiga’s long dog leashes are made from durable rope and finished with a carabiner dog leash clip tested to 400kg, so they’re secure enough for large, strong, and reactive dogs.

Yes, our leads are made with strong materials, so a rope long dog leash is very safe. The added length helps reduce leash tension, giving reactive dogs more room to decompress. At the same time, the carabiner dog leash clip rated to 400kg ensures they stay securely attached, no matter how hard they lunge.

Is a rope long dog leash better than a retractable lead? +

Absolutely. Rope long dog leads are strong, comfortable in your hands, and won’t snap under pressure. Retractable leashes often fail with strong pullers and don’t offer the same reliability or control.

Can I use a long dog leash for recall training? +

Yes, a long dog lead is one of the best tools for recall. It allows you to practice at a safe distance while still having the security of a leash if your dog gets distracted. Start with a 5m leash, and move to a 10m extra long dog leash once your dog’s recall improves.

How should I handle the long dog leash safely? +

Our soft 8mm rope is comfortable to handle, but like any long line, fast-moving rope can cause friction or rope burn.

We recommend giving and taking the rope throughout your walk, so your dog never has the full 5m or 10m to build up speed and hit the end of the line. Always use the handle for a secure grip. And where safe, step on the lead rather than grabbing fast-moving rope with your hands.

A little long-line practice makes for much happier hands and safer adventures.
